Live counters for events in Hyderabad: how they work

A live counter is a small kitchen station set up inside your event, where a cook prepares food to order while guests watch. The appeal is simple: the food arrives hot, the guest chooses what goes on the plate, and the counter itself becomes part of the entertainment. At a wedding reception or a corporate evening, a busy counter is often where the crowd gathers.

Our live food counters in Hyderabad are staffed by cooks who do this at the restaurants and events we run every week. Each counter comes with its own equipment, ingredients, serving crockery and a trained attendant, and is sized to the number of guests it will serve. We do not send a single cook to feed five hundred people, because a counter only works when the queue moves.

Live counters are the most requested add-on within our catering services in Hyderabad. They can stand on their own at a cocktail evening or alongside a buffet, where they take pressure off the main line and give vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests more to choose from. We plan the number and type of counters with you, based on guest count, venue layout and the time of day.

Live counter types

  • Live chaat counter

Pani puri, papdi chaat, dahi puri and bhel assembled to order. Popular at weddings and evening receptions, and quick to serve, so one counter handles a large crowd.

  • Live dosa counter

Dosas, uttapams and variations cooked on a large flat tawa with chutneys and sambar. A reliable choice for daytime events and breakfast functions.

  • Live grill counter

Seekh kebabs, tikkas and tandoori items cooked over charcoal or gas. This is the counter guests crowd around, and it needs careful attention to ventilation and open-flame rules.

  • Live dessert counter

Hot jalebi, rabri and similar dishes finished in front of guests, which makes the end of the meal a moment of its own.

Choosing counters

Which counter, and when

Counters suit different moments of an event. Here is how we usually place each one.

  1. Daytime and breakfastThe live dosa counter, with chutneys and sambar. A reliable choice for daytime events and breakfast functions.
  2. Evening receptionsThe live chaat counter, popular at weddings and evening receptions. It is quick to serve, so one counter handles a large crowd.
  3. Where the crowd gathersThe live grill counter. It needs ventilation and attention to the venue's open-flame rules, and outdoors it needs cover.
  4. The close of the mealThe live dessert counter, hot jalebi and rabri finished in front of guests, so the end of the meal is a moment of its own.

Where live counters work

  • Wedding receptions and sangeet nights

Live counters give guests something to do between performances and keep the main buffet from jamming.

  • Corporate annual days and launches

A chaat or grill counter gives a corporate crowd a reason to mingle and a memorable food moment.

  • Birthday parties and engagements

A single counter suits a party of fifty to a hundred, serving as both the food and the focal point.

  • Outdoor and lawn events

Counters suit open-air settings well, provided the ground is level and the cooking area is sheltered.

Pricing

What decides the price of live counters

  • Type of counter

A grill counter with skewers and charcoal costs differently from a chaat counter, because ingredients and equipment are different.

  • Number of counters

Each counter adds a cook, an attendant and equipment. More counters mean shorter queues.

  • Guest count

A counter serving 100 guests is planned differently from one serving 400, and larger crowds need more cooks.

  • Duration of service

Counters are usually open for a set window. A longer window means more staff hours and more ingredients.

  • Venue conditions

Power, ventilation, open-flame rules and distance from our kitchens all shape setup and transport.

Questions

Questions families ask us

How much does a live counter cost in Hyderabad?

The cost depends on counter type, number of counters, guest count and duration, so we quote each event individually. The written quotation lists each counter, with cooks and equipment, as a separate line so you can add or remove one.

How many live counters do I need for my guest count?

As a rough guide, one counter per 100 to 150 guests keeps queues short, though it varies with the type. A chaat counter moves faster than a grill, so we usually suggest more grill capacity for the same crowd.

What space and power does a live counter need?

Allow about 3 by 2 metres per counter plus queue room. Gas-based counters need no power; anything electric needs a dedicated point. Grills need ventilation, and we confirm all of this with the venue in advance.

Can live counters be combined with a buffet?

Yes, and it is the most common arrangement. The counters add fresh variety and take pressure off the main buffet line, so the whole meal moves faster.
